Working in the therapy gymWhat makes Skyway Rehab unique?

We continue to develop and utilize innovative treatment options for our diverse patient population. Our controlled multi-sensory environment, "Sensory Trails" on our memory care unit, has been specifically designed to deliver stimuli to various senses, using lighting effects, color, sounds, music, scents, etc. The combination of different materials on the activity panels support safe exploration using tactile and auditory input.  The bubble tower and fiber optic cables have a calming effect while providing visual interest and stimulation.  Patients and residents are demonstrating decreased agitation, improved attention and concentration skills, increased upright posture and overall interaction.

Sensory input improves timing and rhythm. This is the foundation of Interactive Metronome. It uniquely combines the concept of a musical metronome with a computer based patented software program.  It precisely measures and trains a person’s timing and rhythm to improve performance at home, school, work and play. Many studies have implicated poor timing and rhythm in individuals with auditory processing disorders, Aphasia, Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions including strokes. Improved timing facilitates improved balance and subsequently reduces the risk of falls.

Our rehab staff has been trained and certified in Interactive Metronome. Through synchronizing motor movements with a steady auditory beat, we are developing and rehabilitating balance, cognitive, communication, sensory self-care, strength and motor skills.

Our Commitment to You.

Traditional therapy strategies remain an essential component in maximizing functional skills. Enhancing our current techniques with evidence-based practices fully engage the patient's neurological system. This coordinates the communication between critical neural networks and further engages fine and gross motor skills.

You will receive comprehensive evaluations, functional treatment plans, coordination of services and assistance identifying and obtaining adaptive equipment. After a debilitating illness, tasks that were everyday functions may become difficult to perform. Our occupational therapy staff will work with you to restore these functions and support you in regaining your independence in activities of daily living.

Let our Occupational Team get you back on your way to independence with training in:

  • Cooking
  • Housekeeping
  • Dressing
  • Laundry
  • Mobility
  • Financial
  • Personal Care
SKYWAY Rehab also provides cognitive assessments to individuals with orientation, word finding and memory concerns. Standardized protocols are utilized to determine if an individual’s cognitive skills are within normal limits, characterize a mild impairment or if signs of dementia are present. Skilled cognitive re-training has proven to be effective in improving scores and maximizing independence.
